CASE STUDY
When a large operating division was sold by one corporation to another, the systems and applications had to be migrated from the seller organization to the buyer. The project required effective and responsive infrastructure project management to support moving internal teams, customers, and suppliers to the systems used by the acquiring firm. This project required best-in-class project management skills to work with different geographic entities across the globe.
The size and scale of this infrastructure project called for strong project management, supported by proven processes. The acquisition required moving the vast majority of systems, data, and applications to the infrastructure of the acquirer in a tight time frame and in a manner that would have zero to little impact on daily operations. With substantial financial penalties for missing deadlines, there was no room for error. Difficulties included multiple silos of the same application, as well as different support and IT teams spread across the globe and operating in isolation. All of these needed to be rationalized, allowing the buyer to utilize more efficient and effective digital infrastructure.
The Maverick team started the process by building a comprehensive scope of work (SOW) for infrastructure project management that was agreed to by all parties. This was supported by Maverick’s proven process and project management capabilities. The project used both waterfall and agile project management methodologies. The SOW identified co-dependencies, project requirements, and restrictions in detail to ensure that all business demands would be met and that the project would not experience any delays. Any delay would have both operational impact and financial penalties.
Perhaps the biggest benefit to the customer was the on-time completion of the project to ensure no penalties had to be paid and the sale of the division was not held up. In addition, there were no meaningful operational disruptions. These benefits are attributable to Maverick’s proven infrastructure project management skills and the quality of the Maverick team. The project delivered a number of newly standardized platforms/infrastructure components that reduced complexity and enhanced efficiency. These included:
The customer was very pleased since the completed project met all the business and technical goals for the sale of the division. In addition, it is now better positioned for the future, with a more capable and manageable technology infrastructure.
