How long have you been in Information Technology?
I have been working with Linux and related technologies since 1998.

How did you get involved with your current position?
I was looking for a new position. One of the many contacts I get via LinkedIn was the Maverick recruiter. Together, we wowed the client. And, as they say, the rest was history.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I like working with a talented team of motivated and technically knowledgeable coworkers on projects that will help make the world a healthier place.

What are your thoughts on the future of the IT industry?
I am excited by the accelerating pace of change. There are always more new technologies to learn than there is time to learn them. I see this as an opportunity for nearly limitless growth for my own career and for others to begin and/or continue their own.

What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
There is more to the Open Source world than just Linux. Explore widely, but always with an eye to those technologies that will accelerate productivity, and reduce repetitive tasks.

Where would you go if you won a free trip to anywhere in the world?
There are so many interesting places in the world, it is difficult to choose just one. But if I could only choose one, I would choose a place where fewer people have been before, such as Antarctica. It has the added bonus of seeing and photographing lots of penguins, the Linux mascot.

What are your hobbies or things that you like to do in your free time?
I have so many hobbies and even more interests that it would take pages to list them all, but mostly I focus on the intersections of nature, photography, Open Source, Linux, Python, DIY, IoT, real world computing interactions, such as building environmental and weather sensors, photo kiosks, GPS trackers, etc. from Raspberry Pi single board computers and CircuitPython microcontrollers. I’m really happy when I can integrate the use of my creations into my love for the outdoors.

What do you enjoy about working with Maverick?
I love the sense of family I get from my interactions with other Maverick employees. I always get the feeling that we are in this together to support one another.
