1. How long have you been in Information Technology?
I’ve been working with computers since my first TRS 80 loading Basic programs via tape cassette back in the 80’s. My dad got so frustrated with me when he ordered his first “real” computer but was out of town on a business trip when it arrived. When he got home, his computer was built and ready to go.
2. How did you get involved with your current position?
Beth reached out to me regarding a possible employment opportunity with a reputable organization that was close to where I live. When I looked up the address, it was 2 ½ blocks from my house and it was just as she said, a reputable organization!
3. What do you enjoy most about your job?
Learning new things as well as teaching users & other techs new tricks. It’s absolutely amazing all the tips and tricks available and different ways of doing things.
4. What are your thoughts on the future of the IT industry?
The future or the IT Industry is amazing. From the back end behind the scenes people to the upfront techs who help users plug their computers back in. Everything is rapidly changing so there is plenty of room for development and different opportunities to get engaged.
5. What advice would you give to your 20 year old self?
Stick to your guns with IT. I chose an average college with a sub-par Computer Science department and ended up jumping around to finish with an Economics & Management double major from the wonderful UNC Chapel Hill but still ended up deeply embedded in IT. I feel like I’ve been playing catch up ever since but that’s also the fun of IT. It’s ever changing.
6. Where would you go if you won a free trip to anywhere in the world?
Costa Rica. I’ve heard some amazing stories about people visiting and coming back with life changing experiences and unrelenting desire to return and possibly move to Costa Rica. I’ve been a few places but this sounds amazing.
7. What are you hobbies or things you like to do in your free time?
Playing with my pit bull, Steve, and my 15 yr. old, 15 lb. cat, Tiny. Filling my 50 gal aquarium with fish. Exploring in Charleston.
8. What do you enjoy about working with Maverick?
Honesty. Follow up. Integrity. I’ve worked with several contracting companies…My partnership with Maverick has been well worth it.
