“Maverick of the Month
APRIL 2019

Congrats to KEN PENA!

Ken Pena joined Team Maverick in July f 2018. He is a Network Engineer for a national service and solution technology provider.
His dedication and focus while continually multi-tasking various technologies is imminent. Ken’s eagerness to help teammates is an added bonus!

A+ Ken! Thank you.

How long have you been in Information Technology?

I attended tech school in New Jersey, graduated in 2005 and began working in 2007.

How did you get involved with your current position?

It was through a recommendation from a previous co-worker who had joined Team Maverick. He told me about his great experience with Team Maverick.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The variety of technologies that I am exposed to and able to learn.

What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?

To be honest, I would not change anything I did – I would follow the path I have but I would suggest that I focus on certifications.  Don’t wait – it is harder to focus as you age and while holding more job responsibilities.

Where would you go if you won a free trip to anywhere in the world?

I’ve heard Italy would be a wonderful place to visit.

What are your hobbies or things that you like to do in your free time?

I’m involved in music.  I play the keyboard and a little bit of guitar. I grew up with musical influences.  My family had a band. We had a few gigs – nothing formal but a lot of fun.

What do you enjoy about working with Maverick?

I like the level of comfort that Maverick provided me throughout the job application process.  Michelle (Mercurio), Team Maverick Lead IT Permanent Placement Mgr., handled the entire process professionally and we developed a nice relationship where I felt I could speak with her honestly about my wants for advancement.  She always kept my future career in mind.  We operated as true teammates as opposed to the traditional Recruiter/Candidate relationship.
